How Digital Signage Enhances the Drive-Thru Experience
Digital signage is changing the way the drive-thru functions by offering many advantages that help to make it more efficient, more accurate and more pleasant for all. These are the ways in which digital signage is changing the drive-thru to make its functions better for businesses and their customers.
Reducing Wait Times
One of the most important advantages of drive-thru digital signage is a more streamlined ordering process. Customers can quickly place their order, reducing time spent at the order point. If the ordering station is connected to a digital signage network and digital signage has access to the order management system, traffic flow can be optimized to reduce bottlenecks and time in the drive-thru line.
Increasing Order Accuracy
Digital signage increases order accuracy by presenting menu options in a clear manner. High-resolution displays and clear text mean fewer mistakes in interpretation of menu items and pricing. Digital menus also help because they can show photos and descriptions of items, also reducing the likelihood of errors and misunderstandings. Integrated systems can allow customers to see what they’re ordering on the order, further reducing the likelihood of mistakes at order time and minimising the need to rework orders later.
Promoting Upsells and Cross-Sells
Digital signage can help sell more through upselling and cross-selling. When a customer is in the checkout line, businesses can prompt them to buy more by presenting real-time promotions, limited-time offers or add-ons. You can promote combo meals or dessert by presenting these options at the point of sale. When a customer orders a burger, show a message such as: ‘To make it even tastier, add a soft drink for only $0.99’. This add-on message is likely to increase the average order value since they’re already ordering. Weather information such as ‘A sunny day – add an ice-cream’ is another great add-on message, as is a time-of-day message such as ‘It’s lunchtime, why not order ‘the works’?’ This creates urgency and offers a final reminder that there’s only a short time to order that special meal.
Improving Operational Efficiency
Digital signage can be integrated with back-end systems to deliver actionable analysis Key metrics including order accuracy, average service times and sales trends can be monitored by drive-thru operations. Decisions regarding how to improve the process, whether it be through better staff training or an optimized drive-thru layout, become more informed.
Enhancing Brand Consistency
Consistent branding is maintained through digital signage no matter the location. Any chain with more than one franchise location, as well as a single-site shop, can ensure that branding through digital menus and promotional displays is the same in appearance and messaging across all locations. It maintains a consistent brand identity and customer experience.
Adapting to Changing Needs
Digital easily adaptable, so food items and promotions can also be tailored items can be introduced, prices can be amended, or seasonal items can be promoted without changing the sign itself. Not only can menu items change, the information on digital boards can be harnessed to meet the underlying business goals.
